A Musical Accent....

For many of us in the western world, there is a very familiar tune to which brides walk down the aisle at the start of the ceremony, we call it, "Here comes the bride".  Many don't know the formal name is
"Bridal Chours" and that it was written by a German composer named Richard Wagner in 1850. The song was originally used in an opera called "Lohengrin".  Traditionally used at the end of weddings is Mendelssohn's Wedding March in C major.  Interestingly enough, there are some cultures that play the songs in the opposite order with Mendelssohn first and Wagner for the exit.  There are other classical pieces which are typically used at weddings, for instance  there is Vivaldi's Spring, Cannon in D and Air from "Water Music."

Somehow, I came to prefer the musical selections that were more meaningful, they often brought more tears to the eyes of participants and guests.  Many couples use the song that they first danced to or the song that imparts the feeling of our times.  These songs sometimes brought home the message of why the couple got together or how appreciative they were for finding this special situation.   Some couples use the traditional music for the entrance and exit and use a contemporary song for the lighting of the unity candle.

Couples renewing vows can accent their ceremony too.  There are a number of songs which impart "still the one" or "through the years" kinds of messages.

You know, fabulousness like beauty is in the eye of the beholder, don't be afraid to make your day special in anyway that you see fit.

Have a great holiday season!
