A Fabulous New Years Wedding!

Greetings and Happy New Year!

You know I like to talk all about weddings and I hope that some of the information inspires someone out there to make their wedding day into an event that is memorable for all that attend.

Now, in Vegas I coordinated many weddings on New Years Eve, some as late as 12:30 a.m.  It was always an exciting time to work for me as there was always something interesting about people who chose such an evening full of excitement for their nuptials.

It's an odd time of year to think of having a wedding, but it can be fabulous! One color combination that is popular is silver and lavender.  A bridal bouquet with lavender roses and silver ribbon can be very nice.

One thing to think about is to check the hours of the Marriage License Bureau and be sure to purchase the license in advance of the wedding. As always, I hope your wedding will be fantastic wherever it is and however you decide to plan it.

Christmas Nuptials.....

A wedding at Christmas time can be fabulous!  With all the lights and rich decor through out many cities and event facilities, this time of year is a magical time for a wedding.  In coordinating weddings during this season I  found overwhelmingly that red with varying other colors like black, white or gold are usually incorporated.  Along with red flowers, you can expect to see red ties and cumber-buns for the groom and his men, likewise, red dresses for the bridesmaids. If there is any draw back to having a wedding during this time it is that the weather and crowds may pose a problem for those traveling from certain parts.  Many weddings during this time can be perfect with just the two or for a small family affair.  Also, keep in mind that the courthouse that issues the marriage licenses may have special hours during the holiday season.  It's always a fabulous time to have a wedding. All the best to you during this Christmas week.  Cheers!

A Musical Accent....

For many of us in the western world, there is a very familiar tune to which brides walk down the aisle at the start of the ceremony, we call it, "Here comes the bride".  Many don't know the formal name is
"Bridal Chours" and that it was written by a German composer named Richard Wagner in 1850. The song was originally used in an opera called "Lohengrin".  Traditionally used at the end of weddings is Mendelssohn's Wedding March in C major.  Interestingly enough, there are some cultures that play the songs in the opposite order with Mendelssohn first and Wagner for the exit.  There are other classical pieces which are typically used at weddings, for instance  there is Vivaldi's Spring, Cannon in D and Air from "Water Music."

Somehow, I came to prefer the musical selections that were more meaningful, they often brought more tears to the eyes of participants and guests.  Many couples use the song that they first danced to or the song that imparts the feeling of our times.  These songs sometimes brought home the message of why the couple got together or how appreciative they were for finding this special situation.   Some couples use the traditional music for the entrance and exit and use a contemporary song for the lighting of the unity candle.

Couples renewing vows can accent their ceremony too.  There are a number of songs which impart "still the one" or "through the years" kinds of messages.

You know, fabulousness like beauty is in the eye of the beholder, don't be afraid to make your day special in anyway that you see fit.

Have a great holiday season!

A Thanksgiving Wedding

I hope you had a great weekend.

It could be fabulous to have a marriage ceremony this time of year.  Some choose Thanksgiving day or sometime during the weekend for their ceremony.  I have coordinated weddings on Thanksgiving before and found the couple chose to host a ceremony when all their family could come together and spend the special holiday weekend as group.
As  far as the palette of colors is concerned it could be an opportune chance to have a wedding with a truly unique theme.  Another twist on the event could be the emphasis of thankfulness or gratitude which is in the spirit of the holiday and is also a feeling found at the heart of a good relationship.

Have a great and prosperous week.

Let them Eat Cake!

For many guests, the cake is one of the most anticipated parts of the wedding day experience.  A good quality cake is not only visually memorable but the memory of a tasty cake can linger on the taste buds for years.  My favorite has always been the white cake with vanilla butter creme icing and  vanilla  butter creme filling with fresh cut strawberries mixed with with the filling.

It is....of course, your choice.  Wedding cakes typically come in white, chocolate and marble flavors.  However, there are many new flavors that bakers are using in wedding cakes.  Today you will find: Lemon poppy seed, white amaretto, red velvet, mango and tres leches flavors along with many more at bakeries.  Traditionally, the fillings were either butter creme, Bavarian creme, custard, or fruit. Now, bakeries are offering other fillings like peanut butter creme, fudge and creme cheese.  The flavor of the filling is a separate selection.  The butter creme, custard or creme cheese can have various flavors added to it. One interesting selection is coconut.

The icing on the outside of the cake is usually butter creme (creamy and buttery) or rolled fondant (hard smooth).  Fondant is used more so on a cake that has a very specific design.   As far as the outer design it's nice to tie the design in with the color scheme of wedding.  Brides are also choosing to design a cake with a look similar as the gown they will where.  Many cakes have flowers on them, flowers on the cake can be fresh, fondant or marzipan.  Also, I think the trend of putting a broach on the cake is an elegant feature.

Maybe you are wondering about the size of the cake.  The size and number of tiers depends on your number of guests.  Your bakery will be able to tell you specifically how much cake to order.  Remember, if you are going to honor the tradition of eating the top tier on the first anniversary you will need to tell the bakery so that they do not calculate that part of the cake for your guest's consumption.

Again there are so many options, cakes are delicious and I hope you find a baker that will make this aspect of your wedding fabulous.

Have a great week!

The Favor of your Presence

Where ever you have your fabulous event, don't forget to show gratitude for the presence of your invited guests.    Favors are another area where couples can express their unique style and flare; on the other hand, a simple gesture can suffice.  For instance, a bottle of bubbles that ties in with the color theme of the wedding.  Small wedding bells are also nice and can be rung at the end of the wedding in place of throwing rice.  On the higher end, small bottles of champagne are often purchased and personalized for giving.

Happy planning, have a wonderful week!

Something...Trendy

There is a familiar saying that is shared with brides at the beginning of their journey to select the theme and accessories of the wedding day, a bride must have "something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue."  Other brides add a six pence to their shoe.  While there are lots of ways to incorporate all of these items into your day, what is more interesting is that brides are going a little bit further and adding something....trendy to the wedding details.  Some say the Ombre hair trend is over; however, it looks like in the world of weddings, it's only just begun:)  The gradual color change from one shade to another is being used in everything from cake frosting to floral arrangements.  Remember, creativity enhances the beauty of the day.

Cheers!

Weddings and Culture

Most Wedding Planners know that with each couple comes a unique story,  beyond that we often find that couples would like their culture and maybe their story woven together throughout their wedding day.  This is what makes this industry so fascinating and it's the reason why I was a full-time wedding planner for more than 10 years.
